What is a philosophy on hope?

It's a want that events will unfold in our favor; a wishful future. Some people believe if they wish hard enough, they can get the future they want. I don't think that's valid. The only way that will happen is if hope is married with action...then a favorable future has a better chance at least. But nothing is certain; even hope IMHO.
